Guide for Author

The JSCEI invites submissions that significantly contribute knowledge in sustainable civil engineering. The guidelines below are designed to help authors prepare their manuscripts according to the journal’s standards.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

Original Research Articles: Comprehensive descriptions of new research that present novel findings relevant to sustainable civil engineering. These articles typically range from 4,000 to 7,000 words. This includes the main text (introduction, methods, results, and discussion), excluding abstract, references, tables, and figure captions.

Review Articles: Critical evaluations of existing literature to summarize current understandings or identify future directions. Typically ranging from 6,000 to 10,000 words. This range accommodates the depth and breadth required to adequately cover a literature review on a specific topic in sustainable civil engineering.

Case Studies: Detailed analyses of specific instances of sustainable civil engineering practices. Case studies usually range from 2,000 to 4,000 words. This allows authors to describe the project background, implementation, outcomes, and significance in sufficient detail.

Perspectives: Short articles offering insights or personal views on emerging topics in the field. These are shorter pieces that range from 1,000 to 3,000 words. They focus on current trends, future directions, or personal viewpoints in sustainable civil engineering.

Manuscript Preparation

Format: Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format. Please use the following article template.

Structure: The manuscript should be organized as follows: Title Page, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments (if any), References, Tables, and Figure Captions.

Title Page:
Include the title, authors’ names and affiliations, and a corresponding author’s email address.

Abstract:
Provide a concise summary of the manuscript, at most 250 words. It should briefly describe the purpose of the research, the principal results, and significant conclusions.

Keywords:
Include 4-6 keywords accurately describing the paper's content.

Introduction:
Clearly state the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

Materials and Methods:
Provide sufficient details to reproduce the work. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference; only relevant modifications should be described.

Results:
Present the results clearly and concisely, preferably in a logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations.

Discussion:
Explore the significance of the work results, not repeat them. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature.

Conclusions:
The study's main conclusions may be presented in a short Conclusions section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of a Discussion or Results and Discussion section.

References

Style: References should be formatted according to the APA (American Psychological Association) style. Ensure all references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text and vice versa.

Citation in Text: Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also in the reference list (and vice versa).

Tables and Figures

Presentation: Ensure each table and figure is cited in the text in consecutive order. Use descriptive titles and captions. Tables and figures should be understandable without reference to the text.

Permissions: If your manuscript contains data, tables, or figures from other sources, ensure you have obtained permission from the original publisher.

Submission Process

Online Submission: Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. This system guides you stepwise through entering your article details and uploading your files.

Peer Review: All papers undergo a single-blind peer review process. In this approach, the reviewers' identities are kept confidential from the authors, but the reviewers are aware of the authors' identities. This standard is maintained to ensure an impartial and fair review of the manuscripts.

Post-Acceptance

Proofs: After acceptance, the corresponding author will be provided with PDF proofs which can be annotated; for this you will need to download Adobe Reader, available free from Adobe.

Open Access: All articles are open and freely available to all. Notably, the Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering Insights does not charge any Article Processing Charges (APC), ensuring free, open access to the published research.

Publication: Once proofs are approved by the author, the article will be prepared for publication in the next available issue of the journal.

Ethics and Misconduct

Authors should familiarize themselves with the journal’s publication ethics, as outlined earlier. Adherence to ethical guidelines is critical to the integrity of the publication process.

By following these guidelines, authors will greatly facilitate the review and publication of their submissions. We look forward to your contributions.
