PROJECTION OF DOMESTIC CLEAN WATER DEMAND TO SUPPORT DISASTERMANAGEMENT IN LAMPISANG VILLAGE, ACEH BESAR REGENCY

Abstract

Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental community need and a critical public service
that plays a vital role in reducing vulnerability and strengthening community resilience to
disasters. In rural areas, limited clean water supply systems often exacerbate the risk of water
shortages, particularly during emergency response and post-disaster phases. Lampisang 

Village, located in Peukan Bada District, Aceh Besar Regency, has experienced a gradual
increase in population, which directly affects the growing demand for domestic water supply.
This condition highlights the necessity of population-based planning to support non-structural
disaster mitigation efforts. This study aims to project the population and estimate domestic clean
water demand in Lampisang Village for the year 2034 as a basis for developing a disasterresilient
water
supply
system.
Population
data
from
2017
to
2023
were
utilized
in
the
analysis.

Population
projections
were
conducted
using
both
arithmetic
and
geometric
growth
methods.
The

results

indicate that the projected population in 2034 is 948 people based on the arithmetic
method and 953 people based on the geometric method, with the higher projection adopted for
planning purposes. Referring to the clean water demand standard issued by the Directorate
General of Human Settlements, which specifies 80 liters per capita per day for rural areas, the
estimated domestic water demand in Lampisang Village in 2034 is approximately 76,240 liters
per day. These findings emphasize the importance of population projection–based water demand
planning as an integral component of non-structural disaster mitigation strategies and the
enhancement of rural water supply system resilience.
