Publication Ethic

The RUMOH Journal is a peer-reviewed national academic journal published twice a year (June and December) in online form. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in publishing — authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Guidelines and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

| Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality & Plagiarism: All manuscripts must be original and free from plagiarism, falsification, or fabrication. The journal screens submissions using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin). The editorial team interprets the similarity report carefully, excluding references, quotations, and common phrases. Excessive similarity or uncredited copying will result in rejection. As a guideline, manuscripts with similarity levels above 20% are generally considered problematic unless clearly justified.
  • Authorship: Only those who have made substantial contributions to the research should be listed as authors. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript.
  • Multiple or Redundant Publication: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper credit must be given to prior research through accurate citation.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts that could affect the work.
  • Data Accuracy & Availability: Authors must represent data truthfully and be prepared to provide raw data if requested. Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement.
  • Corrections: Authors are obliged to inform the editor if they discover significant errors and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions.

| Responsibilities of Editors

  • Fairness: Editorial decisions are based solely on the manuscript’s academic quality and relevance.
  • Confidentiality: Editors maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Decision Making: Editors have full authority over acceptance or rejection, guided by peer review and journal policy.
  • Handling Misconduct: Editors follow COPE flowcharts in investigating suspected misconduct, including plagiarism, data falsification, or authorship disputes.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves when conflicts exist.
  • Corrections & Retractions: Editors are responsible for issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.
  • Editorial Independence: Decisions are free from commercial or institutional influence.

| Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Confidentiality: All manuscripts under review are confidential and must not be shared or used for personal gain.
  • Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted fairly, with constructive and clear feedback.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers must respect deadlines or inform the editor if unable to review.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must decline reviews if conflicts exist.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant works not cited by authors.

| Responsibilities of Publisher

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh, as the publisher of the RUMOH Journal:

  • Ensures adherence to ethical publishing standards.
  • Provides support for editors in managing ethical issues and complaints.
  • Guarantees long-term digital preservation and accessibility of published content.
  • Maintains independence of editorial decisions.

Misconduct and Handling Policy

The RUMOH Journal does not tolerate unethical practices such as plagiarism, redundant publication, falsification, fabricated data, or authorship abuse. Cases will be handled according to COPE flowcharts, and may involve:

  • Requesting clarification from authors.
  • Editorial board investigation.
  • Issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern.
  • Notifying authors’ institutions in cases of serious misconduct.

| Retraction, Correction and Withdrawal policy

  • Corrections: Minor errors are corrected via errata or corrigenda.
  • Retractions: Articles may be retracted for major errors or misconduct. Retraction notices are clearly linked to the original article.
  • Withdrawal: Authors may request withdrawal with written justification. Requests are considered if made before peer review or with valid reasons during the process. Withdrawal is generally discouraged once review has started, but the journal emphasizes fairness and transparency rather than punitive sanctions.

| Generative AI and Automated Tools Policy

  • Authors: Generative AI (such as ChatGPT, image or text generators) cannot be listed as authors. Authors may use AI tools only to assist in language editing, data visualization, or formatting — but such use must be transparently declared in the manuscript.
  • Reviewers and Editors: AI tools may not be used to evaluate or make editorial decisions on manuscripts. Reviews and decisions must reflect human academic judgment.
  • Responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for all content, including text or figures generated with AI tools.

| Copyright, Licensing and Open Access

  • The RUMOH Journal publishes all articles under a Creative Commons license: CC BY-SA 4.0
  • Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right to publish the work.
  • All articles are freely available online (open access) without subscription fees.
  • The journal ensures long-term archiving through OJS preservation networks and Indonesian scholarly repositories (e.g., Garuda).

| Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure

All parties — authors, editors, reviewers — must disclose potential conflicts of interest. Funding sources and institutional support must be acknowledged in publications.
